Interview by Kendra Cook The one and a half day program costs $200 per vehicle and covers all the passengers you can safely fit in the 4x4 with seatbelts. It's held at the Badlands Off Road Park in Attica Indiana on the border of Illinois, registration also covers all Badland's fees, use of a Badlands vehicle flag, and a Badlands sticker for your vehicle. First you'll be taught the basics about your 4 wheel drive vehicle. The 'classroom' learning includes trail safety and etiquette including TreadLightly! and United Four Wheel Drive Association principles, driver techniques and strategies, as well as recovery techniques. All course materials are also yours to keep. After the sit down instruction, you have the opportunity to first test your new knowledge in the real world on a controlled contoured course that includes some small rocks, a hill, an off-camber turn, moguls, and some pea sized gravel. Then in the afternoon you'll 'hit the trails' for your first guided trail ride through the Badlands trail system. Again on Sunday a half day guided trail ride is offered for you to get some experience in a controlled environment. |
